This is my first blog, so if this is a completely absurd topic to write about, chalk it up to me being a blogging beginner. However when something's on my mind, its on my mind and I have to let the people know.
Drake "drizzy" Rodgers also known as Jimmy (with no shape-up) from the Tv show degrassi happens to be a phenomenal rapper. His metaphors are well thought out, descriptive, easy to understand, and they keep coming; the perfect formula for an all-star in today's hip-hop game. He can sing, that's always a plus, and he has the potential to slide into Chris Brown's spot as the "loveable light-skinned guy." He's already dating Chris's girl why not take his fame too? He has endorsements from everybody in rap including Lil Wayne, and Kanye West so obviously no one is brave enough to beef with him yet. He doesn't even have an album out yet and my Grandma (sweetest lady ever) is begging me to download his mixtape for her. Basically this guy has everything going for him...What could he do wrong? Shoot a wack video..and that's exactly what he did.
Rap videos are usually filled with so many busty, half-naked girls that Perez Hilton could get a boner watching one. In fact, Rap videos have been the scapegoat for the moral deterioration of America since Luke and 2Live Crew. But I expected something different from Drake. With all his talent in singing, acting, and rapping in combination with his background with the TV industry I thought he would put together a hot video with "Best I Ever Had." Instead we get a mediocre over-sexualized video that has literally NOTHING to do with the song. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing sexy girls jump up and down in outfits that make thongs look like sweatpants. But I also like seeing artists break down the barriers of their hip-hop forefathers. Here are some reasons why he should've done another video...
1) Parents buy music for kids: Drake had the opportunity of being a favorite of parents with his witty style and less than gangster look.Kind of like Kanye West was when he came out with "Jesus Walks." When parents see this video their going to think this guy is a nympho.
2) He was in the song "every girl": The chorus of this song goes "I just want to Fuck every girl in the world." This song is hot but the concept is soo middle school. In a time when more black people have AIDS than college degrees I think we can do without a song that says "I exchange V cards with the retards" (that's an actual lyric from the song).
3)Kanye West Produced and Shot it: That's right. Yeezy himself produced and constructed this video. So maybe I should be blaming Mr.West for this video. You can tell he was behind it from the double D's on all the chicks to Drake's College Dropout esque wardrobe. My biggest beef with Kanye in this project is that he tried to hard making this video which made the end result seem like he didn't try at all.
"That's what happens when you spitting whats inside you/but slip up and shoot the wrong fucking video and they think they can market you however they decide to" -Drake, Say What's Real
The above lyric from Drake in his freestyle "Say What's Real" was about his video "Replacement Girl" with Trey Songz (youtube it). He was done filming Degrassi and he put all of his money into putting this song together and making this video which debuted on BET's 106 & Park and was never seen again. He was basically broke after he paid for the video and he was hoping to get his big break in music but it never happened until now. He swore he wouldn't make another dumb video that affected the public's perception of him. haha Liar. Fool me once shame on you, Fool me twice shame on Drake.

i agree, the video was really dissapointing to me too, i expect something a lot more artistic and meaningful from kanye and drake. I think its still going to do well on like 106 because its an amazingly hot song and its drake second chance debut, but he definitely can't be putting stuff like this out consistently
